Location History

Founded in 1991, The Beast is America's largest haunted house. The Beast pioneered the "open format" design, where you're not in a line, you're wandering through the scenes, never knowing when a spook or an activated scene will rock into action.
The building this haunted house is located in was built around 1869 for Alvah Mansur, who joined forces with the Deere Company to eventually become The John Deere Company.

Investigators Notes

Angela Hodge:First off Thanks Z95.7 and the Beast owners for allowing us an opportunity to check out the haunted house. We didn't really get a chance to go through the place like normal since it was in operation. Camera's of all type were not allowed but we did try and get some EVP but hate to tell ya it's probable a wash since all the haunted house sounds were in full operation. We hope in the future that they will let us go in when it's not in operation and a bit more quiet to fully venture about. I did enjoy going through the place as a guest and man those bouts of Air being blown on you were the scariest for me.....i never knew when they were coming one after another....The forest was very cool....I think if we didn't have an escort yah I would of been in there for hours just trying to find the way we came in. Very cool!! Andrew from z95.7 was a great trooper Thanks again.

Becky Ray:Kansas City radio station KCHZ, 95.7fm "The Vibe" invited us on this investigation, and I want to thank them for the opportunity! Although it was difficult to do a full investigation due to the haunted house being in operation at the time, we did talk to several employees who related different occurances that they have experienced. We hope to return following the Halloween holiday to conduct a complete investigation!

Sarah Schroeder:We were invited to come research this location thanks to 95.7 the Vibe. I brought with me my 35mm digital camera and used Becky Ray's Olympus Pearlcorder S711 microcassette. The haunted house was in full operation at the time so I was unable to use my camera and unfortunately due to the audio going on in the house, I was unable to get any clear audio. We were able to go into a few of the rooms that staff had claimed to have activity. We did a run through the house with the manager and I had a really great time! It is such an elaborate haunted house that I would love to go back sometime in a social setting. Additionally, I greatly look forward to a time when we can go back after the halloween season and do a thorough investigation of the house! Thank you to The Beast, their employees, and the Vibe for a great experience!

Jennifer Sprague:On this investigation I brought along an audio-recorder to use for interview purposes. This was more of a preinvestigation run through.. we got to go through the haunted house as it was in progress and we spent a lot of our time hearing different stories from employees. We also got to stop by some of the rooms that had reported activity. Since the haunted house was in progress, and had people going through it at a steady pace, it was difficult to do a full investigation, but we all got to meet some of the employees and managers of The Beast and got to hear some of their stories. We all hope to go back in the near future for a future investigation when the haunted house is not in progress so that we can thoroughly investigate. We all had a wonderful time meeting everybody! Special thanks to everybody that worked at The Beast Haunted House and 95.7 The Vibe! You all were great!:)

Junior Szudarski:First off, I would like to thank 95.7 the Vibe and Amber & Chris from The Beast haunted house for allowing us to tour and investigate the facility. I definately enjoyed their hospitality. As far as the investigation, hopefully we will soon get to do a full blown investigation with all power out. That part of the city has a strong history and would love to check into it further.
