Investigators Notes
Bryan Kaplan:I must say that "The Catacombs" has got to be one of the most haunted places I have been in (definately for the Kansas City area. Now the catacombs is a Haunted Attraction that is open in September and October, and for the rest of the year it sits locked up with very little power running through it. Activity pretty much started from the beginning. Putting EVP's aside I found that when the group I was with (Todd, Sevren, Juke, and myself) were on the second floor in the "bedroom" that we were experiencing loud pounding on the walls that we failed to recreate. The unknown pounding seemed to come from a wall near Todd, however when we went to recreate the pounding we found that the pounding sound caused an echo, unlike the unknown pounding. This wasn't something that only happened once or twice, but happened many times while we were in that particular room. Following that room we headed onto the 4th floor which is primary used for storage and it was there where we heard someone walking around the elevator shaft ... the problem with that is that the elevator shaft has been sealed off from the rest of the building after a death that occured in that very shaft earlier in the year. Following the time we spent on the 4th floor we headed back down to the 2nd floor and sat down in the "dining room" which is near the "bedroom" we sat in earlier in the evening. It was there where we continued to hear the very loud pounding that didn't cause any echo (like it did when we tried to recreate it) and I also had the sensation of someone pulling on the individual hairs on my head; which even pulled up on my scalp. After experiencing all of that, the most amazing thing I had experienced involved everyone at the investigation. We had several people sit down on a bridge and had a couple people at each end of the bridge. Following 3am the bridge started shaking violently on its own, moving up-down and left-right. Everyone on the bridge was sitting with their legs crossed or out from the bridge to assure no one would jump up and down on the bridge or use all of their body weight to move the bridge. Now you must understand that the ENTIRE bridge shook, so it would be impossible for a single person to shake the bridge in the way that it did, and had someone attempt that, someone next to them would have noticed.
Kelli Patrick:Equipment used: 35mm camera, Sony Nightshot video camera, Cell Sensor. It was quiet when our group investigated several areas. Up on the 4th floor, we stood w/ our lights out and took in the environment. Trace and I were standing against a pillar facing away from each other. I felt my arm get very cold and felt like something was right next to me. Trace was wearing a backpack that was up against the pillar. He had it tugged several times and something played w/ the zipper. On the 2nd floor, we sat in the "kitchen". Nothing happened to me. On the "bridge", everyone sat quietly w/ our lights out. Within a couple of minutes, the suspension bridge would start moving like someone was walking on it. We did not move at all. This movement of the bridge happened for about 40 minutes that we were on it. There is mesh on both sides of the bridge. We all leaned against the mesh and was facing the other side of the bridge. Within minutes of us sitting, I had a "hand" push on my back really hard. I was startled and moved my whole body sideways facing the rest of the group. I had my hands on my knees, so whatever would not be able to push on me. It grabbed my upper arm with force. It was like it was between the mesh and my body when it grabbed me. I didn't want it to happen again (Yes, I chickened out), so I moved off of the bridge and in front of Bryan on the edge of the bridge. We both saw movement under, over and around the bridge. Whatever this was, was a shadowy figure w/ a cloak on. We didn't believe this to be a human spirit at all. Bryan saw a blue light around his lower body, but I kept getting touched on my leg and my right shoulder. Something kept touching my shoulder like they were just resting their hand on it. I would ask Bryan if that was him and he was not doing it. He was also standing about a foot away. I have never chickened out in a place before, but this did it for me. I am still reviewing my video and film.

After breaking out into small groups, we began on the 1st floor bridge. We felt a very slight movement and the temperature was starting to drop a lot when the group on the 2nd floor began making a lot of noise directly overhead which caused the temperature to immediately go back up.
Our group's next experience of note was in the "Dining Room" area. We had been told of people being touched in this room, so we set up in here and I began filming. There were several times when my camera would be completely blocked out.
After breaking at Midnight we split into two groups rather than the smaller groups so we wouldn't keep disturbing each other and things ran much better. The group I was in consisted of Bryan, Sevren, Brian, and Todd. We returned to the "Dining Room" first and I continued to have my video problems there. Bryan complained of having his hair pulled, and we all witnessed shadows in the doorway. Everyone except for Todd felt a very strong cold breeze blow through the room. Brian had his flashlight pulled from his hands. *The audio from this is uploaded to the EVP section of the website* A temperature check of the surfaces in the room showed that where Todd was at was 10 to 20 degrees warmer.
At approximately 12:47am we all heard a strange creak in the wall between Todd and Brian. At 12:50am Bryan asks for "THEM" to hit the wall again, like he had experienced earlier in the night with his other group. At 12:55am the guys all comment on "lights" they can see on the ceiling. Neither Sevren nor myself can see this. At 12:57am Todd start talking about the creaking sound we had heard earlier on the wall. Shortly afterwards Bryan claims to see a "glow" around Todd. Amazingly the room remains pitch black to everyone else, but Bryan can tell what Todd is doing. I was watching this through my infrared video camera and know that Bryan was not using any glasses or goggles. At approximately 12:59am there is a loud BANG on the wall near Todd. *The audio from this is uploaded to the EVP section of the website*
Later we moved to the Fourth Floor. Very strange things happened here. At approximately 1:34am, the elevator started itself! *the audio from this is uploaded to the EVP section of the website*
One of the strange things about the noises we heard on the fourth floor is that a lot of them did not pick up on my audio recorder. You can hear us react to them, but the sound themselves are not there. Such is the case for the following. At one point, we heard what sounded like someone banging on pipes. There was a very strange sound we heard numerous times very close to us, that upon inspection was found to be a cardboard box being drug across the floor. And then there was walking heard in the bottom of the large elevator shaft. I don't know if this is because the fourth floor is a large open space, but it is strange
At 3am we all joined together to experience what many people have reported at the "Bridge." As Kelli explained in her notes, people have long experienced what seems to be unknown or invisible people walking across the bridge. Some have even felt people pushing up on the slats from under the bridge. For whatever reason, this seems to happen most frequently at 3:05am. Since this was our first investigation at this location, we set up to experience this ourselves, and did we! I have never heard Kelli say, "I need to go," in reference to leaving an investigation before. All I can say is, I was ready so stay the rest the night, and can't wait to go back to continue the investigation! See the video for my film from the bridge.

Bryan, Sevren, Todd, and others were on the 4th floor when this EVP was recorded. Ironically three hours later we learned about a sighting of a little girl on this very floor.

Todd, Sevren, Juke, and Bryan were on the fifth floor (by the staircase that goes up to the sixth floor) when this EVP was recorded. Juke asks Todd if each floor has its own breaker box, to which Todd tells him yes and then proceeds to talk to him more about it. Bryan was starting to walk upstairs when an unknown voice says, "Come on they're going on without you, hit the breaker."

This is a Class C EVP, so you may need to use headphones to hear it. I was on the second floor with Stewart and Brian and we were passing through a small crawl-through tunnel on our way towards the "Dining Room." As we crawled through this tunnel, Stewart found a quarter. There is a strange noise on this recording that happens twice that cannot be explained at this time. It was not heard at the time. Shortly after the second time the noise is made, and partially under it there is a faint voice that seems to say, "Give it to me! Get out!" or maybe "Get out of here!"

Juke and Todd were talking about a prop when this EVP was recorded (3rd floor). Bryan and Sevren were walking toward a prop when Bryan says "what is that?" followed by an unknown voice saying "move another (or above) step, move it" followed by Bryan saying "a grave digger?"

Todd was telling Brian D that he shouldn't taunt any potential spirits in the room when this EVP was recorded. It seems to say, "Thank you."

This was recorded in the "Dining Room." Bryan was talking about something pulling on his hair when a faint voice is heard to say, "Like that?" or "That?" This is a Class B EVP so you may need to use headphones to hear it.

Again, I was in the "Dining Room" and we were all talking about how cold we were and the bizarre breeze we were feeling when this strange sound is heard. This was recorded on an RCA RP 5012B.

Bryan, Todd, Brian, Sevren, and I were just getting situated on the fourth floor when the elevator attempted to start itself. It ran for almost exactly two minutes before stopping. This is the entire thing, so this may be a large file, depending on your connection.

Bryan, Todd, Sevren, and Becky were on the 4th floor when this was recorded. Everyone in the group had heard someone walking in the elevator shaft which had been sealed off for several months, which is what caused so much attention to the event. You will hear Todd ask over his radio if anyone in the other group had heard the walking in the elevator shaft. You will hear silence followed by an unknown voice saying yes, following which you will hear Todd ask over his radio again "did you hear the walking in the elevator shaft" (because there was not a response after he asked it the first time.

This is from my audio recorder at the same time as Bryan's audio above. I was walking over the boards and other items toward the elevator shaft and was very near Todd who was talking on his headset. You'll notice you cannot hear anyone's voice bleeding over from the walkie talkie. Bryan's voice is audible in the distance as he says, "whoa!" so it is obvious that he is no where near us. You can hear Todd ask the question twice, and after the second time he asks he continues his conversation when he finally receives an answer from someone over the walkie talkie.

This EVP was recorded at the bridge. You will hear an unknown voice make a creak noise followed by Bryan saying "I'm seeing little flashes of light." and then another unknown voice saying "Really."

This EVP file marks the event of the first shaking event of the bridge. Several of the investigators sat down on the bridge either with their legs crossed or forward hanging off the bridge while a few people remained on either side of the bridge taking watch of activity. The EVP takes place while the bridge is shaking, "Get off of me." -unknown voice "Oh my God." - Bryan. "Get off of me, get off of me, get off the bridge." - unknown voice. You will then hear Todd's son mention how he wants off the bridge followed by Todd telling him to stand by Brian D off of the bridge. You will then hear the bridge move as Todd's son does so. Bryan will then say, "That was pretty cool," followed by an unknown voice saying "Are you yellin?"

Throughout the investigation my video camera would lose focus and go completely black when I would try to record toward this door to the room. I took the photo shortly after the first occurrence, however nothing out of the ordinary appeared on film.
I took this photo during the time that Bryan was reporting something pulling or tugging on his hair. Although there is nothing unusual in the photo, it is also clear that there is nothing near him that would be causing this sensation.
This photo was taken shortly after we heard unaccounted for footsteps in the bottom of this elevator shaft. *There is nothing paranormal in this photo, it is here just as reference.
